Frequently asked questions

Quick answers — written by humans, not a chatbot.

How are the six free-response essays weighted?

The exam has two long essays and four short essays. In this model they sum to the free-response half of your score. On the real exam the longer essays carry more points, so estimate each against its own rubric.

Do I need to memorize all 250 works?

The required image set is the backbone of the course, and many questions reference it. This calculator does not quiz you on the works. It estimates your score once you have your raw counts.

Is Art History curved generously?

Like every AP exam, the College Board sets cut scores each year based on difficulty. Our thresholds are reasonable estimates, so use the result to see where you stand rather than as an official score.
