Frequently asked questions

Quick answers — written by humans, not a chatbot.

Which authors are on the exam?

AP Latin centers on the Gallic War of Caesar and the Aeneid of Vergil. The free-response translations and essay draw on the required reading, while parts of the multiple choice use sight passages you have not seen before.

How is the translation scored?

Translations are graded for accuracy almost word by word against the rubric. Estimate the points you would earn on each line rather than judging the passage as a whole.

Are the cut scores official?

No. They are reasonable estimates from past exams. The College Board sets the official thresholds each year, so use this as a study guide.
