Cultural Comparison — AP Spanish la tarea 4.
Task 4 of the AP Spanish exam: a 2-minute monologue comparing a custom in your community to one in a Spanish-speaking community. The rubric is template-friendly. This guide gives you the template.
The task
You hear a topic (typically a custom or cultural practice). You have 4 minutes to plan and 2 minutes to speak.
The rubric scores: (a) task completion, (b) cultural knowledge, (c) language use, (d) fluency, (e) pronunciation. “Task completion” means you actually compared — not just described one side.

Which country to pick
Pick ONE Spanish-speaking country and learn 3 customs you can compare — holidays, food, family structure, education. Mexico, Spain, and Argentina are the safest choices because they give you the broadest material.
Don’t name multiple countries in the same response. Pick one and go deep.

How important is grammar accuracy?
Less than fluency. The rubric rewards uninterrupted speech. A grammar error in service of finishing your thought scores higher than a half-finished perfect sentence.
Do I have to use one of the 6 CED themes?
The topic always comes from one of the 6 themes. Knowing which theme it’s from helps you pick the right cultural angle.
