Where students lose the most points

Confusing positive and negative feedback
Negative feedback is far more common in homeostasis. Positive feedback drives processes to completion, like childbirth or blood clotting.
Assuming a blocked receptor stops everything
If a downstream component can be activated another way, the response may still occur.
Mixing up the checkpoints
G1 checks for damage and size before DNA synthesis; the spindle checkpoint verifies chromosome attachment.
Saying cancer is “uncontrolled growth” and stopping
Explain the mechanism — failed checkpoint regulation and unrepaired mutations.
Forgetting amplification
A signal cascade multiplies the response at each step; that is often the point of the question.
