AP exam schedule 2027: every exam, date, and start time.
The 2027 AP exams run over two weeks, May 3–7 and May 10–14. In most of the US, Session 1 starts at 8 a.m. and Session 2 at 12 p.m. local time, and late testing follows on May 17–21. Every date here comes straight from the College Board’s official schedule. Once you know your dates, start reviewing with our free AP study guides.
AP exam schedule 2027, week by week
The College Board lists the schedule by day and session, and so do these tables. Session 1 is usually the morning slot and Session 2 the afternoon, but your AP coordinator tells you exactly when and where each exam happens. Select an exam to jump to its row in the full table, which also shows its late-testing date.

Two slots hold three exams each: Session 1 on Thursday, May 6 (French Language and Culture, Physics 2, and World History: Modern) and Session 1 on Friday, May 14 (Comparative Government and Politics, Computer Science Principles, and Spanish Literature and Culture). Every other slot has one or two. If two of your exams land in the same slot, you can still take both; the exam conflicts section explains how.

AP Networking is on the schedule only for schools in the College Board’s 2026–27 pilot, so most students won’t take it. The full course launches in 2027–28. AP Art and Design and AP Research have no end-of-course exam, which is why they aren’t in the table. Their due dates are in the portfolio deadline table.

What time do AP exams start?
In the lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C., Session 1 starts at 8 a.m. local time and Session 2 at 12 p.m., the same as in past years. Alaska is different starting in 2027: Session 1 begins at 7 a.m. and Session 2 at 11 a.m. local time.
An exam can begin up to an hour after its listed time, so rely on your AP coordinator for the exact start and room. You’ll also see Session 1 and Session 2 where older schedules said morning and afternoon.
Testing outside the US? Find your UTC offset for May in the table below, taken from the College Board’s 2027 AP exam start times. Some locations now start earlier than 8 a.m. local time, a change the College Board made so exam questions can’t leak from one time zone to the next.

Late testing (makeup) dates: May 17–21, 2027
Late testing runs the week after the regular two-week testing window, May 17–21. Every exam has one fixed late slot, shown in the grid below and in the by-subject table. Students who test late take an alternate version of the exam on that set day and session.
Late testing: May 17–21, 2027

You can’t book a late exam yourself. Your AP coordinator moves your exam order to the late date, and most reasons cost nothing extra, including serious illness or injury, a family tragedy, an academic or athletic event, a religious holiday, a conflict with an IB or Cambridge exam, and two AP exams in the same slot. A few reasons, such as retesting after a security violation, add $40 per exam. The College Board keeps the full list on its late-testing page.
Exam conflicts: two exams at the same time
Register for both. Then ask your AP coordinator to move one of them to its late-testing slot. A same-slot conflict is on the College Board’s list of no-fee reasons, and the checkboxes above flag one as soon as you pick both exams.
2027 AP portfolio deadlines
Some courses have work due in the AP Digital Portfolio. It has to be submitted as final by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on the date shown. Three of the four deadlines are on April 30, 2027, before the first exam.
| Deadline | Course | What’s due |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, April 30 | AP Computer Science Principles | Create performance task components |
| Friday, April 30 | AP Seminar and AP Research | Performance tasks |
| Friday, April 30 | AP World Languages and Cultures | Personalized Project Reference (PPR), new for 2027 |
| Friday, May 7 | AP Art and Design | 3 portfolio components |
AP Computer Science Principles, AP Seminar, and the language and culture courses also have a regular exam in May, so for those students the portfolio deadline comes on top of the exam.
How the 2027 AP exams are given
For 2027, every AP exam with an end-of-course test is taken in Bluebook, the College Board’s testing app. Of the 38 regular exams, 26 are fully digital, so you answer everything on screen. The other 12 are hybrid: you read the free-response questions in Bluebook and handwrite your answers in a paper booklet. The hybrid exams are Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Music Theory, Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, Physics C: Mechanics, and Precalculus.
A few things are new this year. The world language exams and AP Statistics move to fully digital, AP Music Theory becomes hybrid, and the two new AP Career Kickstart courses, AP Cybersecurity and AP Business with Personal Finance, are fully digital from the start. Six language exams (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish Language) also now open with the free-response section and finish with multiple choice. Bluebook test previews are available now for most subjects, with the rest due in early 2027, so you can try the tools before test day. Our page on which AP exams are digital has the full list and shows what test day looks like in the app.
Before exam week: registration and fees
Your school orders your exams, and the AP exam registration deadline is November 13, 2026. Each exam costs $99 in the US, US territories, Canada, and DoWEA schools, and $129 at schools elsewhere. Students with significant financial need can get a $37 College Board fee reduction per exam, and depending on your state, extra funding may lower the cost further.
Missing the deadline costs money. Most exams ordered after November 13 cost an extra $40 each, and if you drop an ordered exam after that date, you pay $40 instead of the full fee. You pay through your school, not on the College Board’s website.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers, taken from the College Board’s 2027 pages.
When are AP exams in 2027?
The 2027 Advanced Placement (AP) exams run May 3–7 and May 10–14, with late testing on May 17–21. Each exam has one set date and session, and the tables on this page list all 39.
When do the 2027 AP exams end?
The last regular exams are on Friday, May 14: Comparative Government and Politics, Computer Science Principles, and Spanish Literature and Culture in Session 1, then Latin and Psychology in Session 2. Late testing ends a week later, on Friday, May 21.
Can I take two AP exams on the same day?
Yes, if they’re in different sessions. Session 1 and Session 2 are separate slots on every exam day, so a morning exam and an afternoon exam don’t conflict. Two exams in the same session do, and late testing is how you take both.
Can I take an AP exam if my school doesn’t offer it?
Yes, but you arrange it yourself. Use the College Board’s AP Course Ledger to find a nearby school that gives AP exams, then call and ask for its AP coordinator, as early in the school year as you can. That coordinator orders your exam, collects the fee, and tells you when and where to report. Schools order by November 13, though a school can still add you later at its discretion.
When do 2027 AP scores come out?
In July 2027. The College Board releases most AP scores in July but hasn’t announced the exact 2027 date yet. Scores from late testing can take a little longer. Our AP score release date page lists past release days and the June deadlines that come first.
How long are AP exams?
Most AP exams last 2–3 hours, according to the College Board. Length varies by subject, and our AP exam length table lists every exam’s total and section times.
What should I bring on AP exam day?
Know your College Board login, because Bluebook needs it on exam day and a saved password won’t work. Bring a fully charged device with Bluebook installed and its charger, unless your school provides one, and pencils or pens; for hybrid exams, that means No. 2 pencils or black or dark blue pens for the free-response booklet. You can also bring up to two approved calculators for calculator exams, a watch that isn’t a smartwatch, and a photo ID if you’re testing at a school you don’t attend. Phones and smartwatches stay out of the room.
When will the 2028 AP exam schedule come out?
The College Board hasn’t published 2028 AP exam dates yet. When it does, this page switches to the 2028 schedule at the same address, so it’s worth bookmarking.
