The redesigned course covers six units. They are numbered 8 through 13 because the Physics C sequence continues from the seven Mechanics units — so a syllabus that opens at “Unit 8” is not missing anything. Electrostatics and circuits carry the most weight.

How to study for AP Physics C: E&M
Command the calculus, because the big laws are integrals. Gauss’s law, Ampère’s law, and Faraday’s law are all statements about integrals, and the exam rewards setting them up correctly and exploiting symmetry — knowing when a spherical, cylindrical, or planar Gaussian surface makes the integral trivial is worth more than any memorized result.
Then practice deriving rather than recalling. Since the equation sheet is provided, points come from choosing the right relationship and justifying the setup, so work past free-response questions under a timer and keep our equation sheet open until the symbols and setups feel automatic. AP Physics C: E&M vs Mechanics — which is harder?
Most students find E&M the harder of the two. Mechanics deals with motion you can picture — blocks, ramps, collisions — while E&M works with invisible fields and leans more heavily on the calculus, especially the integral forms of Gauss’s and Ampère’s laws. It is also usually taken second, so the pace assumes you already have Mechanics-level fluency.
