Condition checking
Which condition is violated, or what a plot tells you about the Normal condition.
Interpret a confidence interval
The correct interpretation is about the plausible values of the population mean, not about individual data points.
P-value reasoning
A P-value is the probability of a result this extreme if the null were true — not the probability the null is true.
Effect of sample size
Bigger samples narrow the interval and increase power without changing the confidence level.

Where students lose the most points

Using z instead of t
If the population standard deviation is unknown — which is nearly always — use t.
Skipping the conditions
The conditions are worth points on their own. Checking them is not optional.
Misinterpreting the confidence interval
It does not mean 95% of the data lies in the interval, nor that there is a 95% chance the mean is in this interval.
Confusing paired with two-sample
Matched pairs analysed as two independent samples is the classic Unit 7 error.
Concluding “we accept the null”
You either reject it or fail to reject it. You never accept it.
